Dec 8th - Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day

Today is Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day.

Go to the link for some suggestions. It could be fun. It is a humorous slant on the concept we all invoke from time to time. If you Grandfather had lived to see this. Or I wonder what the Founding Fathers would say if they were here now.

Though a tragic moment, I believe one of my favorite pundits used this line to cut to the chase on September 11th. Dennis Miller said something like "if the Founding Fathers saw an airplane fly into Independence Hall, they would have 2 responses. The first would be "Holy s***, who invented the airplane?" The second response would be "let's get our muskets and kill these b*******!"

Enjoy.

No clues... What?...

In the article about the homicidal gunman at the mall in Nebraska, the closest adult to the situation gave this information in an interview:

"But Maruca-Kovac said she saw nothing foreshadowing the horror Hawkins would inflict in his last moments alive. She remembered a gentle young man who loved animals."

Wait for it... wait for it... wait for it....

"She regarded him so benignly that when he showed her the SKS semiautomatic rifle the night before his attack, she thought little of it, the Omaha World-Herald reported."

Hmmm... If only there were other clues to piece together like....

"There was a felony drug conviction in 2005 and the disorderly conduct charge seven months later. He was due in court later this month on charge that he contributed to the delinquency of a minor."

No clues yet... Let's see if there is anything else that would have warned a normal person...

"With Hawkins living in her home, Maruca-Kovac could see that Hawkins had a drinking problem and was an occasional marijuana smoker. He enjoyed music and video games_'normal teenage stuff' she said."

Still no clues... I guess we'll have to read further...

"He was depressed, and he had always been depressed, but he looked like he was getting better, Maruca-Kovac said."

Still no clues...

"Then, about two weeks ago, he lost his girlfriend. A week later, it was his job."

Still no clues...

"He was not on any medication for mental illness, but he had been treated in the past for depression and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Maruca-Kovac said."

Dang, still no clues... All we have to go on are:

1) A clinically depressed teenager who is not taking his medication
2) A criminal history that includes a felony and pending criminal charges
3) Drug use and a substance abuse problem
4) Lost his job and his girlfriend
5) Brandishing an assault rifle

What else could he have done to warn the adults around him that he was about to do something horribly tragic? Did he need to have a t-shirt printed that said "Warning. The wearer of this shirt is about to commit a homicidal rampage". Common sense and an ounce of backbone could easily have averted this tragedy.

Flock of Seagulls hairdo and a monkey

Apparantly, Emily's hair was still wet when she went to sleep last night. She woke up this morning with what can only be described as a Flock of Seagulls hairdo. Keith is more like a monkey (his nickname is "Monkey") everyday. Tonight, he said "watch this Daddy" and balanced on my pushup bars.

Wow.

Female Rapists

The really hot teacher in Florida has been arrested for a probation violation.

First, the arrest issue seems trivial. She is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with minors and in this case she spoke with a 17-year-old female coworker. Technically, it is a violation of her probation and she was arrested. If the case is accurately summarized at the link above, I think this is poor judgement to have her arrested again.

Second, she should be in prison. Wikipedia has a lacking summary here. The big ommission is that Ms. Lafave sent her victim a videotape during the trial.

My thoughts on female rapists are unchanged and can be read here.
